With the cabbage soup diet, you will be on a diet that lasts for about seven days. Longer could possible cause some health issues because this diet is strictly for taking the weight off quickly. The cabbage soup works by giving you a diet high in both fiber and water. This combination gives you more bowel movements and increased urination. Even though some people find this annoying, or are uneasy about constantly having to run to the bathroom, it is a good thing for your body. Fiber is often used to detoxify your body, and the increased bowel movements as well as the urination are the ways that your body frees itself from the toxins that often get trapped in the fat cells. As this continues your body has a better capability to break down fats, which means that you lose more weight and reach a healthier, more desirable, size.

During a soup diet you are allowed to eat foods like sandwiches, however you need to pay attention to what you put on them. Bread is not as fattening as people believe so that isn’t really something you need to worry about. Wheat bread tends to be the healthiest with about 56 calories per slice if you are worried about watching your calorie intake. For breakfast you should try to eat things like yogurt that has been fortified with extra fiber and/or vitamins. If you would prefer you can have low fat cottage cheese that is fortified with calcium and mix it with fruit like bananas and strawberries as well as nuts, preferably walnuts.
